摘要: The number of total hip replacements taking place across the UK continues to grow. In an ageing population, with people placing greater demands on their prostheses, peri-prosthetic fractures is increasing. We studied economic impact this has a large teaching hospital. All patients femoral fracture in 7.5 year period were identified. Radiographic and case note analysis was performed. Costings from finance departments obtained. 90 cases identified, 58 female 32 male, mean age 76 (range: 38-91). 89 managed surgically, 66% undergoing revision 33% receiving open reduction internal fixation. According Vancouver Classification, 3% Type A, 79% B 18% C. length stay 43 days. cost management £31,370 £6885-£112,327). Patients type C had highest at 53 days £33,417. Including rehabilitation costs, our study illustrated £31,370, roughly four times current basic NHS tariff £8552. Although implant costs are greater, treatment where appropriate allows earlier weight bearing, reduced lower overall cost.
