摘要: During the last decade, carbapenem resistance has emerged among clinical isolates of Enterobacteriaceae family. This been increasingly attributed to production β-lactamases capable hydrolyzing carbapenems. Among these enzymes, Klebsiella pneumoniae carbapenemases (KPCs) are most frequently and clinically significant class-A carbapenemases. In this report, we describe first nosocomial KPC-2-producing K. oxytoca isolated from a pediatric patient with pneumonia admitted intensive care unit at The Andes University Hospital, Merida, Venezuela. strain was resistant several antibiotics including imipenem, ertapenem, meropenem but remained susceptible ciprofloxacin, colistin, tigecycline. Conjugation assays demonstrated transferability all determinants, except aminoglycosides. isolate LMM-SA26 carried ~21 kb conjugative plasmid that harbored , genes. Although in is still unusual Venezuela, KPCs have great potential spread due their localization on mobile genetic elements. Therefore, rapid detection KPC-carrying bacteria phenotypic confirmatory molecular tests essential establish therapeutic options effective control measures.
