摘要: Since its initial identification and cloning in 2002, Astrocyte Elevated Gene-1 (AEG-1), also known as metadherin (MTDH), 3D3 LYsine-RIch CEACAM1 co-isolated (LYRIC), has emerged an important oncogene that is overexpressed all cancers analyzed so far. Examination of a large cohort patient samples representing diverse cancer indications revealed progressive increase AEG-1 expression with stages grades the disease inverse relationship between level prognosis. functions bona fide by promoting transformation. In addition, it plays significant role invasion, metastasis, angiogenesis chemoresistance, hallmarks aggressive cancer. implicated physiological pathological processes, such development, inflammation, neurodegeneration, migraine Huntington's disease. highly basic protein transmembrane domain multiple nuclear localization signals present cell membrane, cytoplasm, nucleus, nucleolus endoplasmic reticulum. each location, interacts specific proteins thereby modulating intracellular processes combination which contributes to pleiotrophic properties. The review provides snapshot current literature along future perspectives on this unique molecule.
